I was so happy to get another package from Too Haute Cowgirls. They recently sent me a small box that contained two gourmet popcorn flavors — Bareback Buttercrunch™ and My Darlin’ Valentine™.

As everyone knows I am a huge caramel popcorn lover. When I opened up the bag of Bareback Buttercrunch and began tasting I had a real hard time putting it down. Each kernel was covered in a delicious toffee and butter flavored caramel. The taste was awesome and all the flavors worked perfectly together. I ate more than half of the bag before I decided to save some for later. And about an hour later I was craving that buttery toffee flavor so I started eating it again until it was all gone. This popcorn has a wonderful addicting flavor and all I wanted was more.

The My Darlin’ Valentine flavor starts with their caramel popcorn and then it’s covered in dark chocolate. It also contains dried cranberries and chopped macadamia nuts. The combination of flavors and the different textures was heavenly. Sometimes when you’re eating flavors like this you forget that it contains popcorn. If you need a gift for Valentine’s Day then go get some My Darlin’ Valentine™.

I absolutely loved all the gourmet popcorn from Two Haute Cowgirls. I just wish I had more.

I was fortunate to have over a dozen of my favorite kinds of popcorn on January 19th, in celebration of National Popcorn Day. Among them were five new flavors from Joe & Seph’s — Caramel, Cheddar Cheese & Seasoning ~ Auvergne Cremeux Blue Cheese, Walnut & Celery ~ Toffee & Cinnamon Spiced Golden Delicious Apple ~ Classic Caramel Infused with Mirin, Soya & Sesame ~ and Classic Caramel, Brandy Infused Fruit & Almond. If these flavors sound incredible it’s because they are. Joe & Seph’s pushes the envelope when it comes to infusing different flavors using air-popped popcorn.

I heard about the Brandy Infused flavor from a follower on Twitter and they mentioned that it tasted like mince pie. I’ve never had mince pie before, but after tasting this popcorn I was hooked on the combination of flavors. This popcorn flavor is unbelievable!! (Note to self: remember to buy some mince pie). The Toffee Cinnamon Apple flavor was delicious and made a perfect meal for breakfast, and at lunch time I enjoyed the Classic Caramel Infused with Mirin, Soya & Sesame and the Caramel, Cheddar Cheese & Seasoning.

After eating so many different kinds of popcorn on National Popcorn Dady it’s hard to talk about the flavors that I didn’t really like. Some popcorn flavors can be so overpowering that you can’t taste the popcorn. The Blue Cheese flavor was one of those flavors that I just didn’t like because of this reason. The cheese flavor was just too strong. You might like that in your popcorn, but I just didn’t care for this flavor. I also didn’t like the Cheddar flavor that much. I think it had something to do with whatever savoury seasoning was used. Since “seasoning” was listed as one of the ingredients on the package I really did’t know what ingredients they used as their seasoning. I just thought that the combination of flavors didn’t work very well in this popcorn flavor.

Joe & Seph’s popcorn is air-popped and handmade in England. They have some of the most unique popcorn flavors that I’ve ever tasted. The Classic Caramel, Brandy Infused Fruit & Almond is one of the best flavor combinations that Joe & Seph’s makes. If you like popcorn as much as I do then you need to try this flavor. It’s truly one of the best popcorn flavors I’ve ever tasted and it’s now one of my all time favorites. I can’t wait to see what Joe & Seph’s comes up with next.

The unusual combination of Old Bay seasoning and peanuts make this popcorn a must try. If you’ve ever eaten Maryland crabs you’re going to love the taste of Chesapeake Crunch. I’m not advising you to sprinkle peanut powder on your crabs, but this unique flavor combination on popcorn really works. I was totally surprised at just how the Old Bay and peanut flavors combine together in your mouth. This is truly a taste experience not to be missed.

I munched on my Chesapeake Crunch while watching the Ravens game this past weekend. I started out with a gallon bag when the game started and by halftime I only had a few cups left. I really wanted to make it last the entire game, but after a few more beers and a few more handfuls, the bowl was empty and the Chesapeake Crunch was all gone. However, the Ravens went on the win the game.

Chesapeake Crunch popcorn + Ravens football = a win-win situation.

CrunchDaddy Popcorn has some very unusual popcorn flavors. I’ve had the pleasure of tasting all of them and you should too. Be sure to get some Chesapeake Crunch to enjoy during the next Ravens game and use the coupon code “popcornface” to get 10% off your order.

Imagine my surprise when I found a bag of coal in my stocking this year. When I was a kid my older brother put a real bag of coal in my stocking for Christmas as a joke. But I was good this year and didn’t get real coal in my stocking, but I did get a Bag O’ Coal from LesserEvil. This company makes two kinds of kettle corn ~ Classic Kettle and Cocoa Kettle Corn. They also make a mixed version called Black & White Kettle Corn which is a mix of Classic & Cocoa Kettle Corn. LesserEvil sent me 2 small bags of the Classic, 2 small bags of the Black & White, and one small Bag O’ Coal.

I decided to open up a bag of the Black & White Kettle Corn so I could taste both flavors. I really enjoyed this popcorn because it’s not as sweet as most of the kettle corn I’ve tasted, and it’s light and crunchy too. The Cocoa flavor reminded me of Cocoa Puffs. Eating both flavors together was more enjoyable than just one of the flavors by itself.

If you know someone who is naughty or nice the Bag O’ Coal would make a great addition to any stocking, but I recommend the Black & White because you can enjoy both flavors.

This crunchy snack is actually made from field corn. The same corn used for animal feed. Well, that suits me just fine. This stuff is pretty good. I absolutely love the crunch. The good folks in Mountain Lake, MN sent me four different flavors of their crunchy snack ~ Original, Gourmet Cheddar, TexMex, and Bar-B-Q.

I started out by tasting the Original. It was really crunchy, similar to small pieces of hard pretzels without all the huge pieces of salt. The kernels of corn were different sizes and the smaller ones were harder and crunchier than the larger ones. The flavor was certainly corn, just not popcorn. And, after eating an entire 4 oz. bag (4 servings and about 560 calories) there were no small pieces stuck in my teeth. No wonder farm animals like this stuff so much. I really didn’t care too much for the Gourmet Cheddar flavor. The TexMex flavor had a nice mild kick and I could have eaten the Bar-B-Q flavor all day long, it was my favorite.

I really like GladCorn. It’s a great crunchy snack. I just want to see more flavors.

We met at Starbucks for the second time this past weekend. I arrived a little early so I got myself a coffee and waited patiently for Dan and the goodies to arrive. After a few minutes of sipping on my coffee and people watching, Dan arrived with a big bag of popcorn samples. We sat and spoke a bit and then he began revealing what he brought for me one flavor at a time. The first bag he pulled out was Sweet Butter Crunch, his signature kettle corn. I was happy! The next flavor I tried was Honey & Cinnamon Crunch and all I can say is “wow.” The first crunch delivers a nice cinnamon blast but as you begin chewing, the flavors change on your tongue. The cinnamon becomes milder and then the honey kicks in. I did have some bits of hardened honey stick to my teeth, but that’s what made the honey flavor last longer. Dan gave me a few other flavors to sample, which I did, but I’m not going to mention them because they are in the development stage.

Dan and I also had a great conversation about what makes popcorn gourmet. My definition of “gourmet popcorn” is when you take a simple kernel of popcorn and turn it into something unique and flavorful. Most of the “gourmet popcorn” you see today is already popped and flavored with a variety of ingredients.

CrunchDaddy Popcorn has some great “crunchy” flavor combinations. The Sweet Butter Crunch and the Honey & Cinnamon Crunch are currently my two favorites.

Use the coupon code ‘popcornface’ and get 10% off your order at CrunchDaddy Popcorn.

Thanks again Dan. Your “gourmet popcorn” was delicious!

The 8 oz. bag contained 9 servings and each serving contains 130 calories which made the entire bag over 1,000 calories. I decided to count the number of pieces in the bag and after some quick calculations came up with about 12 pieces per serving. After the first taste I quickly realized that this tasted more like a candy product than a popcorn product. It was too sweet for me and I only ate about 15 pieces before I decided to close the bag up and put it down. I really wasn’t compelled to continue eating this stuff like I do with regular popcorn. It didn’t surprise me that milk chocolate was listed as the first ingredient, but I was totally surprised that water was listed fourth and popcorn was fifth. Does this product really contain more water than popcorn? I would have liked this product more if the popcorn was just drizzled with the milk chocolate instead of being drenched. The good news is that you get the sweet, crunchy, chocolately, and salty flavors all in one bite. If you like chocolate then you’ll like Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Covered Toffee Popcorn.

These popcorn flavors were really fun to taste one after the other. The chiles used in each flavor also have a different taste and heat level which I enjoyed.

The All Spice Cafe uses mushroom-shaped popcorn and the same sweet caramel in each flavor, but the difference is in the chiles. The Sweet Chile Popcorn was the mildest of the three flavors and could easily be eaten by the handful. The Sweet Habanero Popcorn was pretty hot and it had the best aftertaste. The heat from this popcorn stayed on the middle of my tongue for about a minute. When I first tasted the Ghost Pepper Popcorn I only took one piece because I knew it was going to be hotter than the Habanero. Within a few seconds after the first crunch I could feel the intense spiciness and heat of the Jolokia Ghost Pepper. It wasn’t overwhelming, but that lovely spicy heat stayed on the back of my tongue for several minutes. I cannot imagine eating this popcorn by the handful, so I didn’t. The Habanero and Ghost Pepper flavors are best enjoyed one piece at a time, or you can break up a few pieces and use it as a topping on soup or salad. I really liked all three popcorn flavors from the All Spice Cafe.

If you like to put hot sauce on your popcorn then give this popcorn a try. It’s currently the hottest popcorn I’ve ever tasted.

The first bag I opened was “Bit O’ Land and Sea” — cane juice and sea salt kettlecorn. This popcorn was lightly coated, had the perfect balance of sweet and salty, and it had a nice crunch. I opened up a bag of “Tomato, Tomäto, Pomodoro” next — sun-dried tomato, asiago cheese and herbs. It sounded good, but I thought it was a little chewy and I just didn’t care for this flavor. The next flavor I tried was “Hatch Has Met It’s Match” — aged white cheddar and hatch green chiles. I liked this popcorn mostly because of the mildly spicy chile flavor but it lacked a strong white cheddar taste. After reading the ingredients I found out that it contained a cheese blend of aged cheddar, blue, and sharp white cheddar cheeses. “To Be Eaten Gingerly, Wasabi-San” was the next flavor I tasted — kettlecorn flavored with sweet ginger and wasabi. The flavor combination was awesome — the first crunchy taste was ginger and a very mild wasabi flavor followed. I probably would have liked this popcorn more if the wasabi flavor was a bit stronger. I saved my favorite for last and I kind of knew it was going to be my favorite before I even tasted it. It was called “From Olde England, With A Kiss” — kettlecorn flavored with anise extract. After popcorn I am a huge licorice fan. The taste of this popcorn reminded me of pizzelles, a traditional Italian waffle cookie flavored with anise. It’s amazing how many different kinds of flavored popcorn there are in the world and Crave Canyon has a few that will keep your tongue dancing.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Dan Bazis, the owner of CrunchDaddy Popcorn. We met on Twitter and since we only live a few miles from each other decided to meet and talk about popcorn. We met at a local Starbucks for coffee and I got to sample his popcorn creations. The flavors he brought me included Movie Night Crunch, Sweet Butter Crunch, and Peanut Butter Crunch. The Sweet Butter Crunch is his own rendition of kettle corn. Most of the kettle corn that I’ve had are made from mushroom popcorn, but CrunchDaddy uses the butterfly shaped popcorn and I liked it a whole lot better. It’s lighter and crunchier and buttery too. And I found out from Dan that he uses real butter. The Peanut Butter Crunch was a huge surprise — it was the first time I had peanut-butter flavored popcorn and I really like it. You can’t get CrunchDaddy in the stores yet, but if you know Dan I’m sure you can get some samples. CrunchDaddy is launching at the beginning of the year and I’m really looking forward to trying more crunchy flavors. Thanks Dan!
