Popcorn Buddha

popcornBuddhaPopcorn Buddha sent me a box that contained eleven popcorn samples, a flag with their logo, and some popcorn flavored lip balm (just in time for the cold weather). The first thing I did was try the lip balm. It kind of reminded me of those popcorn-flavored jelly beans… I’m not crazy about popcorn-flavored jelly beans … so I think you know about how I feel about the lip balm. I’ll just have the popcorn please.

With so many different flavors to choose from I decided to start with the Everything Bagel flavor. I expected to taste some seeds, but all I tasted was garlic, onion, salt, and a few other spices — but it was mostly garlicky. I would suggest adding some sesame, sunflower, and poppy seeds. I did like this flavor, as a matter of fact I ate the entire contents in just a few minutes. I like garlic. The next three flavors I tried all included a dark chocolate/cocoa flavor — Espresso, Aztec, and Peppermint Patty. The Espresso was pretty good. It had bits of espresso beans that complimented the chocolate flavor. The Peppermint Patty flavor reminded me of Junior Mints. The Aztec flavor only had a mild spice and it wasn’t that good. Up next was Angry Lime. I expected some heat with this flavor and I got it. This flavor should have a warning on the label. The front end flavor is lime, but the spice used was so hot that it killed my taste buds for about ten minutes. I had to take a long break before even thinking about trying another flavor.

The following flavors were my least favorites — they included Sweet Chili (that really needed a stronger chili powder flavor), Zip’s Spicy Cheese (that was only mildly spicy and mostly cheesy), and Smokey Cheddar BBQ (that was too chewy and a little stale). The remaining three flavors were my favorites — they included Cajun Bacon Ranch (a flavor that lacked a good bacon flavor, but had a great ranch flavor), Falafel (an interesting combination of earthy spices that included cumin and coriander), and Philly Cheesesteak which turned out to be my favorite flavor.

Popcorn Buddha makes some interesting popcorn flavors. I would recommend the Falafel, Peppermint Patty, and Philly Cheesesteak flavors. They were all pretty addicting, especially the Philly Cheesesteak. And, if you like spicy popcorn flavors then the Angry Lime is a must try.
